Our website address is https://risetocitizen.org. Rise to Citizen is a free citizenship-preparation platform that provides resources to help immigrants prepare for the U.S. citizenship test. We are an independent platform and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or any government agency.
This policy explains what personal information we collect through the website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Please do not share sensitive information such as your A-Number, Social Security number, passport details, or case information. We do not need it to answer your questions.
You do not need an account to use the practice tests. [Confirm with the quiz plugin: We do not store your practice-test answers or scores.]
We use it to respond to your messages, send the newsletter if you subscribed, run and improve the site, protect it from spam and abuse, and comply with the law. We do not sell your personal information.
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public next to your comment.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by emailing info@risetocitizen.org. [Name of email provider, e.g. Mailchimp] processes subscriber email addresses on our behalf.
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not need to fill in your details again next time. These cookies last for one year.
[Analytics, if installed: We use [tool name] to understand how visitors use the site, which may set cookies. Delete this line if no analytics is used.]
[Only if staff log in: When site administrators log in, we set cookies to save their login and display choices. These do not apply to regular visitors.]
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work as expected.
Pages on this site may include embedded content, such as YouTube videos. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited that website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the content, including if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the site (such as hosting, email delivery, and spam filtering), when the law requires it, or with your consent. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation. Contact form messages are kept for [e.g. up to 12 months]. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.
If you have left comments or contacted us, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including anything you gave us. You can also ask us to erase it. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. If you live in California or another state with privacy laws, you may have additional rights, and we will respond as the law requires. To make a request, email info@risetocitizen.org.
Our site links to other websites, including USCIS and other organizations. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
Our site is meant for adults preparing for the citizenship test and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no website or email system is completely secure.
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest change.
