Our Story: From Volunteer Classrooms to Digital Platform

What began as a simple observation has grown into a movement. Rise to Citizen started in the classrooms of City College of San Francisco, where volunteers conducted mock citizenship interviews with immigrants from around the world. We saw firsthand the challenges aspiring citizens faced: confusing materials, lack of accessible resources, and the overwhelming nature of preparing for one of the most important tests of their lives.

Since our founding, Rise to Citizen has helped over 1000 immigrants prepare for their citizenship tests. Our community spans all 50 states, representing over 10 countries of origin.

We have partnered with community organizations, libraries, and adult education centers across the country to expand access to our resources. Our volunteer network continues to grow, with former users often returning to help the next generation of aspiring citizens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which test version should I study?

It depends on when you filed your N-400 application. If before October 20, 2025, study the 100-question version. If on or after, study the 128-question version.

Is Rise to Citizen really free?

Yes! All our resources are completely free and will always remain free. We are a nonprofit dedicated to accessible citizenship preparation.

Do I need to create an account?

While you can access many resources without an account, creating one allows you to track your progress and save your study materials.

What happens if I fail the test?

If you fail any portion of the test, you will have a second opportunity to be retested on the portion that you failed within 60-90 days.
