Rise to Citizen Began

with a simple observation: immigrants preparing for their citizenship test needed more than just study materials—they needed confidence, community, and accessible support.
Founded in San Francisco, our journey started in the classrooms of City College of San Francisco, where volunteers conducted mock interviews with aspiring citizens from around the world. What began as a grassroots effort has evolved into a comprehensive digital learning platform designed to serve immigrants from all backgrounds, wherever they are on their path to citizenship.

That profound moment sparked a mission: to create accessible pathways for immigrants to achieve their American dream. Today, Rise to Citizen continues this vision by removing barriers to citizenship preparation through technology and community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which test version should I study?

It depends on when you filed your N-400 application. If before October 20, 2025, study the 100-question version. If on or after, study the 128-question version.

Is Rise to Citizen really free?

Yes! All our resources are completely free and will always remain free. We are a nonprofit dedicated to accessible citizenship preparation.

Do I need to create an account?

While you can access many resources without an account, creating one allows you to track your progress and save your study materials.

What happens if I fail the test?

If you fail any portion of the test, you will have a second opportunity to be retested on the portion that you failed within 60-90 days.
